Kaufman was established in 1948 with the county seat of Kaufman.
Both the county and the city were named for David S. Kaufman, who was a diplomat and U.S. representative from Texas.
Kaufman has a number of properties listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Cameron County is the southernmost county in Texas.
Founded in 1848, it was named after Captain Ewen Cameron, a soldier in the Texas Revolution.
Cameron County has three different nationally protected areas in or partially in its boundaries.
These include the Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge, the Lower Rio Grande Valley National Wildlife Refuge, and Palo Alto Battlefield National Historical Park.
15. El Paso

The county is known for a low cost of living, which is incredibly appealing if you’re looking to buy cheap land in Texas at a decent purchase price.
It’s located in far west Texas and stands on the Rio Grande across the Mexico-United States border.
El Paso has a strong federal and military presence due to the number of military bases located here.
It was also considered to be one of the top three safest large cities between 1997 and 2014.
Between 2011 and 2014, it actually held the title of the safest city.
The climate of El Paso isbetween cold desert climate and desert climate, so it has hot summers, little humidity, and cool to mild (dry) winters.
The sun shines in El Paso for 302 days of the year.
That said, there are mountains nearby, and the county does receive snow.
Because El Paso is located in the western region of Texas, it is not included in the Central Time Zone and operates on Mountain Time Zone.
Another attractive element of El Paso is its diverse economy.

14. Henderson

The county was established a year after Texas statehood in 1846.
Not surprisingly given its age, this county has a few ghost towns, including Centreville and Corinth.
It also has one place on the National Register of Historic Places: the Faulk and Gauntt Building (located in Athens).
In addition, there are 7 registered Texas historic landmarks in Henderson.
13. Nueces

Nueces County is located in the southwest region of the state with a population of 340,223.
Its county seat is Corpus Christi.
The county was named for the Nueces River, which is the southernmost major river in the U.S. that is north of the Rio Grande.

Parker County is located in the northeast region of the state with 116,927 inhabitants.
It was named after Isaac Parker,who introduced the bill that established Parker County as a county in 1855.
The county intersects with the Brazos River, also called the Rio de los Brazos by early Spanish explorers.
Parker County also has two high points – Slipdown Mountain and Slipdown Bluff.

It was founded in 1846 and named after Peter Wagener Grayson, who was attorney general of the Republic of Texas.
The Caddo Amerindian groups also inhabited Grayson County.
It has the natural protected area of Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge within its boundaries.
10. Johnson

Johnson County is located in the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington area with a population of 150,934 during the 2010 census.
It was named after Middleton Johnson, who was a Texas Ranger, soldier, and politician.

9. Hidalgo

Its largest city is McAllen, and it was named for the priest Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla who raised the call for Mexico’s independence from Spain.

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (formerly the University of Texas-Pan American) is located in this county.
8. Smith

This county is the second-most populous county in the state and the eighth-most populous county in the entire country.
In 2019, it was estimated to have 2,635,516 residents.
The county seat is the city of Dallas, which is the state’s third-largest city.
The county was founded in 1846 and potentially named after the 11th Vice of the U.S. President under James K. Polk, George Mifflin Dallas.
Dallas County is included in the Dallas-Arlington-Fort Worth metropolitan statistical area.
This is colloquially referred to as the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.
6. Bell

It was named after the third governor of Texas, Peter Hansborough Bell.

The county has a good public-school system, low cost of living, great local amenities, low crime rate, and other essentials.
5. Comal

Located on the Edwards Plateau, Comal County is quite a bit smaller than some of the previous counties discussed.
During the 2010 census, the population was only 108,372.
However, in 2017, it was designated as one of the nation’s 10 fastest-growing counties.
Some of the rural land features that surround Comal County are the Balcones Escarpment, the rocky hills and canyons of Texas Hill Country, the rolling grasslands of the coastal plains, and the Guadalupe River.
There are two songs about this county: Jason Boland’s “Comal County Blue” and Bleu Edmonson’s “No Room for Mercy.”
4. Bexar

Bexar County is the fourth most populous county in the state of Texas.
The 2010 census stated that the population was 1,714,773 and a recent 2019 estimate has put that number up over 2 million.
Its county seat is San Antonio, which is the second-most populous city in Texas.
When Bexar County was originally created in 1836, it encompassed almost the entire western portion of the Republic of Texas.
After statehood, 128 counties were created out of this original area.
The county was named from San Antonio de Bexar – the same name that the modern city of San Antonio got its name from.
In 2013, the county opened the first entirely digital library in the country, called BiblioTech – Bexar County’s Digital Library.
The Government Canyon State Natural Area also lies in the northwestern part of the country.
3. Collin

Current estimates suggest the population has reached over a million residents.
This is not surprising given that a small portion of Dallas lies in the county!
The county itself was named after Collin McKinney, who was one of the five men who drafted the Texas Declaration of Independence.
McKinney was also the oldest of the 59 men who signed it in 1836.

Denton County ranks as one of the top ten most populous counties in Texas and was established in 1846 by John B. Denton, who was a Methodist minister, lawyer, soldier, and political candidate.
In 2007, it was one of the fastest-growing counties in the entire country.
The 2019 Census Bureau estimate for population was 887,207, which is up over 200,000 people from the 2010 census.
In general, this area has a low cost of living and a lively music scene.
So, Denton is a great place to relocate if you’re looking to buy Texas properties and like both of these things.
